Welcome
to the home page of Big Daddy's Bar-B-Q!
Thank
you for taking the time to stop in and learn more
about us.
Big
Daddy's Bar-B-Q is located in Des Moines, the
capital city of Iowa. The family-owned and
operated business was established in 1983 by Ike
Seymour, aka Big Daddy, and his wife, Arnzie
Seymour. The restaurant is currently
located at 1000 East 14th Street.
Big
Daddy's restaurant is known as one of the best
places for ribs in Des Moines and as an excellent
caterer. They catered to President Bill
Clinton and Vice President Al Gore while the two
politicians were visiting Iowa.
Many
celebrities have professed their fondness for his
mouth-watering food and unique sauces. Big
Daddy has received local and national attention
for his sauces. He has appeared on Peter
Jennings World News Tonight and the Early Show
with Bryant Gumbel, among others (see Video).
Perhaps
the thing Big Daddy is best known for are his
barbecue sauces which are suitable for anyone's
taste buds. The Mild and House Hot
varieties are available in select supermarkets
and drug stores in the Midwest, and through mail
order. The extremely hot sauces are
available at the restaurant and through mail
order only.
Currently,
the hottest sauce Big Daddy offers is called
"HELP!" All of Big Daddy's
extremely hot sauces contain a secret spicy
ingredient known only to Big Daddy, a descendant
of Bahamian parents. To date, only one known
person has been able to eat an entire sandwich
with one of his hottest sauces on it (see Video) .
Big
Daddy has been recognized for his untiring
commitment to public service. The proceeds
generated by the entry fees of contestants
participating in the "World Class Hot Sauce
Contest" have been donated to the Food Bank
of Iowa. Big Daddy also donates food and clothing
to children in the Des Moines Public school
system and gives generously in fundraisers at his
church.
