Welcome
to the home page of Big Daddy's Bar-B-Q!
Thank
you for taking the time to stop in and learn more
about us.
Big
Daddy's Bar-B-Q is located in Des Moines, the
capital city of Iowa. The family-owned and
-operated business was established in 1983 by the late Ike
Seymour, aka Big Daddy, and his wife, Arnzie
Seymour. In 2008, after celebrating 25 years in business, the restaurant closed. The Mild, Mild Hot, and Lava-Q sauces are still
manufactured in the building that housed the restaurant at 1000 East 14th Street.
In his heyday, Big Daddy received local and national attention for his sauces. Thanks to his
extremely hot sauces, a segment featuring Big Daddy appeared on Peter Jennings World News Tonight and he made an appearance on the Early Show
with Bryant Gumbel (see Video).
Big Daddy's has captured the hearts and taste buds of loyal customers with their barbecue sauces. The Mild, House Hot, and Lava-Q
varieties are available in select supermarkets in the Midwest, and through mail order. The extremely hot sauces are available through mail order only.
Currently,
the hottest sauce Big Daddy's offers is called
"Are You a Survivor?". All of the
extremely hot sauces contain a secret spicy
ingredient that was known only to Big Daddy, a descendant
of Bahamian parents. Limited supplies of those sauces are available.
