Using his hottest sauce as bait, he always offered $500 to any customer who, after paying an entry fee, could finish a sauce-covered sandwich in ten minutes or less. As the customer tried to meet the time limit, Big Daddy would describe the attempt like a boxing commentator. The contestant sometimes went to the hospital (inspiring names for his sauces). Only two people ever collected the prize.
The winner was always the Food Bank of Iowa, which received all of those entry fees.
Taking Big Daddy's eating challenge, charity and fun-loving nature to the next stage, Big Daddy Catering offers live charity events which pit contestants against each other in a round robin extreme bar-b-q challenge. Check out the calendar below for the next event.

Let's get ready to rumble! Big Daddy's BBQ is resurrecting the famous Hot Sauce Challenge after many years. We're looking for brave souls with big hearts to help us raise money for Big Daddy's charitable giving program by participating in the Big Daddy's Challenge on Thursday, August 18 at 3pm during the Iowa State Fair. For a $50 donation, you can be a part of history by attempting to eat an entire sandwich smothered in one of Big Daddy's famous hot sauces in less than 10 minutes. If you succeed, you win ultimate bragging rights and a Big Daddy's trophy. No one loses in this challenge because we're helping Big Daddy's give back to the community, the schools and those who are hungry.
Download the entry form and waiver, and send in your donation. Or, if you're out at the fair on the 18th, stop by at 2:30 and we will sign you up! We'll plan to see you on August 18 at 3pm at the Iowa Pork Producers tent on the Iowa State Fairgrounds (Grand Ave, East of Old Mill).

Big Daddy's is Back!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us at the Iowa State Fair yesterday. We had a great time talking with everyone and hope you were able to get a taste of some of our great sauces.
